April Twelves

(with Dr. Alice Barron)

Born out of an intensive series of cross-cultural improvisations, April Twelves is an avant-garde duo project formed while completing my Master’s residency in London. The project is a collaboration with the phenomenal British violinist, violist, and musicologist Dr. Alice Barron. Barron boasts an elite international pedigree, performing regularly with icons like superstar Nigel Kennedy, jazz-fusion pioneer Jean-Luc Ponty, and the London Sinfonietta, alongside her leadership of the Iyatra Quartet. In 2020, she was awarded her doctoral degree (PhD) from the University of Oxford.

April Twelves is driven by a shared, deep fascination with the classical acoustic architectures and philosophies of India. Together, we compose original, immersive, and intentionally slow-moving soundscapes utilizing a unique layout of prepared sarods, classical violins, viola, Hindustani slide guitar, and live electronic sampling. Both the Indian slide guitar and Carnatic violin hold fascinating intercultural stories, having migrated to the Indian subcontinent from Hawaii and Europe, respectively. Having both undergone rigorous traditional training with renowned Hindustani and Carnatic classical masters, our music explores the rich, macro-level resonances made possible through the sympathetic string arrays of the sarod and slide guitar. [12]

Upcoming Production: The Follow-Up Album (Autumn 2026)

Following our successful international tour across cultural landmarks—including performances at the Volksbühne in Berlin, London, Oslo, and a packed release showcase with nyMusikk Bergen at Bergen Kjøtt—we are moving into the next chapter. In the Autumn of 2026, we will officially enter the studio to record our second full-length album. This upcoming body of work expands our microtonal soundscapes, further manipulating time and silence through real-time electroacoustic processing.

Our debut studio album, Hesperidium (recorded at Duper Studio), released to critical acclaim, with noted jazz authority Tor Hammerø celebrating the duo's unparalleled conversational depth:

"Atmospheric gatherings… rewarding conversations are held in a way I have never heard before, and it is therefore a real joy to be part of the journey."
— Tor Hammerø, Jazz Critic
